OSCA 2024 Call for Workshop Proposals

Sunday, November 3 (3:10pm-4:10pm) to Monday, November 4, 2024 (10:55am-11:55am, 12:55pm-1:55pm, 2:05pm-3:05pm)/

Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale

Through our inspirational keynote addresses, in-person networking opportunities, and collective learning, we will look at how to move forward in an environment that channels unique ideas, adaptability and transformative practices into agency for future-ready student development. Let’s share and network in person, so that we can take learning back to our schools to support students in cultivating their passions and acquiring future-ready skills as they plan for their personal and professional lives.

We are seeking workshop proposals that will provide our members with the highest quality professional development. Inspired by this year’s conference theme, The Future is NOW – Embrace the CHANGE, we are looking for workshops that illuminate future-ready skill development, wellness, and best practices in our schools. Topics could include, but are not limited to: skilled trades, technology, artificial intelligence, future labour market trends, essential skills, STEM careers, apprenticeships, transition planning (K-8, 8-9, 12 to post-secondary), experiential learning, wellness programs and practicesworking with newcomers/2SLGBTQ+/Indigenous/Black/other racialized students, francophone workshops, the use of technology in Guidance courses and programs, community/parent engagement, counselling techniques, financial literacy, etc.
We strongly encourage our OSCA/ACOSO guidance and career education subscribers to submit proposals to share your excellent programs and best practices with colleagues. If your workshop is chosen, you will receive an OSCA thank-you gift card as a token of our appreciation for presenting.
Successful applicants should arrive approximately 30 minutes to one hour ahead of their presentation time.  Presenters will need to pack up and leave quickly at the end of their time to allow subsequent presenters to set-up. Presenters who wish to attend the conference as a delegate, will need to PURCHASE A DELEGATE REGISTRATION on the OSCA/ACOSO website.
Workshop proposals are due April 30, 2024, and will receive an automatic confirmation acknowledging receipt when you submit this form. Workshops should be 1 hour long, including Q&A. Commercial focused presenters are encouraged to review the exhibitor options available for conference exposure. OSCA/ACOSO reserves the right to make final workshop selections and to edit abstracts. If your workshop is chosen for inclusion in our fall conference, you will be notified by May 30, 2024, via email.

I was asked by @OSCA_ACOSO to write an article about some of the challenges of engaging and supporting under-represented students in the #scholarship process. Here are some ways educators and supporters (and higher ed in Canada!) can help.
