OSCA/ACOSO invites presenters to submit proposals for workshops to be considered for our 2025 Conference, LEADERSHIP STARTS HERE: Empowering Leaders, Inspiring Change.

 

We are seeking presenters who excel in their areas of expertise and can deliver captivating and educational  presentations to inspire NEW and EXPERIENCED teachers who are involved with Guidance and Career Education and Student Success.  Topics may include, but are not limited to, English and Francophone workshops in the following areas:

 

Academic Planning

  • transition planning and programs (K-8, 8-9, 12 to post-secondary),
  • IPP (Individual Pathway Planning) programs,
  • Guidance courses – share best practices (lessons, rubrics, delivery models, etc.),
  • working with newcomers, including assessing transcripts and transition plans,
  • equity and inclusion (Including use of the IEP’s in guidance programs and courses),
  • use of technology in Guidance departments and courses,
  • Student Success programs and tracking,
  • Dual Credits,
  • Specialist High Skills Major programs, tracking, etc.,
  • alternative programs to support learning, and
  • Guidance programs, staffing, etc. in small/rural schools 

 

Career Planning

  • labour market trends,
  • workplace preparation for direct entry after high school,
  • transferable skills and resume building,
  • apprenticeship pathways and programs,
  • college and university pathways and programs,
  • going to school in the USA or abroad,
  • NCAA, and
  • financial literacy and planning,

 

Health and Wellness

  • mental health and wellness programs and practices,
  • 2SLGBTQ+ programs and supports,
  • supporting Indigenous, Black, and other racialized students,
  • supporting teachers who are new to Guidance and/or Student Success,
  • legal and ethical issues – case studies of what to do when, and
  • whole school/community programs – sharing of best practices.

 

WORKSHOP LOGISTICS and REQUIREMENTS

  • Deadline for workshop proposals: April 23, 2025.
  • Applicants will be notified by May 30, 2025 via email to share results of our review of your proposal.
  • Workshops should be 60 minutes long, including Q&A.
  • Handouts/Resources: Presenters must supply their own handouts and resources if needed.  We encourage presenters to keep paper to a minimum and to provide digital links to resources where possible. 
  • OSCA/ACOSO will request copies of your presentation and/or materials to keep on our website in the members’ lounge (with your permission).
  • AV Requirements: Presenters must supply their own laptop.  The application process will determine if you need a projector, screen, and/or WiFi.  We encourage presenters to download all files prior to presenting in the event of WiFi issues.
  • Workshops are to be educational, not for the marketing of products or services that require monetary contributions of our delegates. Presenters associated with profit businesses MUST be registered as an exhibitor or sponsor to contribute to the overall expenses for the conference.
  • Presenters may receive an OSCA/ACOSO thank-you gift card as a token of our appreciation for presenting.
  • Presenters who wish to attend other workshops and/or meals will need to register as a delegate on the OSCA website.
